Alan Beard of Interlink Capital Strategies appointed to U.S. Department of Commerce Trade Finance Advisory Council
U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Wilber Ross appoints Alan Beard, Managing Director of Interlink Capital Strategies (Interlink), to the Trade Finance Advisory Council (TFAC) to provide him advice and counsel on trade finance issues.
Although 96% of the world’s consumers and over 75% of purchasing power lies outside of the United States less than 1% of small businesses currently export. Many of the 29 million small businesses do not have access to much needed export financing. The current administration is committed to ensuring equal access to international markets and reducing or eliminating trade barriers that disproportionately impact American small business.
The Department of Commerce created the TFAC to advise the Secretary of Commerce in identifying effective ways to help expand access to finance for U.S. exporters, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Secretary appointed Mr. Beard due to his 30 years of extensive public and private sector experience assisting SMEs gain access to export financing. Under Mr. Beard’s direction, Interlink offers export financing to businesses, as well as structured financing for projects in Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Middle East, using government risk mitigation support from a number of Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) in North America, Europe and Asia. Mr. Beard co-founded and manages two private equity funds focused on export/import finance, as well as another fund focused on renewable energy infrastructure in Latin America funded by European DFI’s. With this unique perspective he expects to provide valuable input into the Commerce Department’s important trade finance initiatives.
