Yenigun was appointed by the Ministry of Public Procurements (MINMAP) of Cameroon in cooperation with AFLLC/AECOM consortium to construct the Douala-Japoma stadium, which will host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. The ground was broken and construction began after project financing was obtained from BGFI Bank and the Turkish ExIm Bank. Interlink Capital Strategies and its affiliate Pacific TriStar Equipment, an Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) backed entity based in West Africa, coordinated with Yenigun in obtaining this $232 million USD contract.
The Cameroon Ministry of Sports has announced the construction of two new stadiums in the country ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup. The Douala-Japoma stadium is planned to be world-class with covered grandstands and bleachers and a capacity of 50,000 attendees. Furthermore, the site will contain two training grounds with 1000 seats each with uncovered stands, a covered gym facility with 2000 seats providing the capacity to hosting simultaneous sport events, an eight-lane, covered Olympic pool with 1000 seats, two basketball and volleyball courts, four tennis courts, and 37,000 m2 parking.
“While this is the first project of our US-Turkish consortium in Cameroon and Central Africa, our team’s portfolio include noteworthy stadiums such as the Moses Mabhida stadium, the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, the Cape Town Stadium in South Africa, the Allianz Arena in Germany and the 'Birds nest' Olympic stadium in China and we certainly hope to expand with other international stadium projects globally” said Fikret Yenigun, the General Manager of Yenigun.
Alan Beard, the Managing Director of Interlink, stated: “We are pleased to support Yenigun’s expansion into Africa with this exciting project. With the support of Yenigun’s management and Turkish ExIm Bank, as well as Yenigun’s long and successful history, we look forward to continuing our partnership by winning and completing additional projects in the region.”
